Performance Support

This case study describes observations, support provided and the subsequent outcome of the match. It does not claim that the observations or support directly caused the result. Individual interpretation is encouraged.

Team Performance Support – Momentum Shift

Focus

A team was trailing during the latter stages of a knockout match and appeared to be struggling to generate sustained attacking momentum.

Initial observations identified restrictions affecting attacking flow and overall team cohesion.

Observations

Observations were recorded throughout the match relating to blocks, frustration, forward momentum and the development of attacking opportunities.

As the match progressed, attention shifted towards restrictions identified around the goal area and the team's ability to convert opportunities.

During extra time, the following observations were documented:

"Maybe 6 mins into extra time. But then heard 7 as well."

"Energy is hard at that right goal."

"The flow easier towards left."

"Continuously clearing the right one block after block."

Observed Changes

A noticeable improvement in attacking momentum was observed during the closing stages of the match.

The areas identified as restricted appeared to become increasingly active as the game progressed, creating greater attacking opportunities.

Outcome

Following the observations concerning attacking flow, the team scored an equalising goal.

During extra time, a six-to-seven-minute timing estimation was recorded alongside further observations relating to the goal area.

Approximately six minutes later, the winning goal was scored.

The team recovered from a losing position, secured victory and progressed in the competition.

Documentation

The observations, notes and timestamps were recorded in real time during the match before the outcome was known.

Original notes, timestamps and supporting records have been retained on file.
